What We Do

Provide Comprehensive Leadership

The Office of the Vice Provost for Online Education provides comprehensive leadership and direction for the function of online education at Penn State in partnership and collaboration with deans, chancellors, vice presidents, and vice provosts across the institution.

Shared Responsibility

Online Education at Penn State is based on shared responsibilities and roles, coordinated across administrative and academic unit resources to develop an administrative approach to ensure a highly integrated, yet flexible, environment to advance Penn State’s strategic online initiatives.

Our office serves alongside a variety of units that are brought together into a leadership community that encourages the collaboration and innovation needed to prepare Penn State to achieve the long-term vision for online learning. Each participating unit continues to be responsible for its own work as each coordinates with other units to achieve the mutual goals.

Online Education at Penn State is supported through several groups:

This council was established to address the academic issues Penn State faces in the realm of digital learning as they relate to strategic growth and advancement; technology enhancements; academic matters involving policy, procedure, and practice; and student success. The PSDLAC engages in the exploration of relevant topics that advance One Penn State 2025, provides feedback to other units interested in the input on topics relevant to the digital environment, and advances recommendations that support the academic environment as it relates to digital learning.

The Online Coordinating Council was established to address the operational issues Penn State faces in the realm of digital learning as it relates to strategic growth and advancement; technology enhancements; operational policy, procedure, and practice; and student success.

PSeEC aligns with the charge of the Online Coordinating Council and was created to implement policy and best practices as they align with the work of the Penn State Digital Learning Academic Council, particularly with regard to technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
